A Woman’s Needs

We find that God has provided for the deepest needs of the woman through her relationship with Him and with her husband. Spiritually, she needs peace within her heart and the hope of eternal security. Physically and emotionally, she needs a life companion who will provide for her a home and a secure relationship. She also yearns for the fulfillment of bearing children and being a mother. The woman is God’s channel for multiplying and has a powerful role in raising the generation to come. There is no greater joy for a woman because it is a blessing from God.

Genesis 1:27-28 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Genesis 3:20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve (“life, or living”), because she was the mother of all living.

A Good Man

There are many men in the Bible who provide an example of how God intended for husbands to honor and care for their wives. A good example is Joseph. The Bible calls him, “Joseph, the man of Mary.” He and Mary were engaged, and when she was found pregnant, he did not accuse her or send her away immediately. He quietly considered how he should respond, and listened when the angel of the Lord spoke to him:

Matthew 1:18-24 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, “ which is translated, “God with us.” Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus.

We see that Joseph was patient and wise, not being hasty in making a decision. He trusted God and stood by Mary, supporting and caring for her in obedience to God.
